Our friends at Savannah Bee Company is giving one lucky reader an exquisite bottle of their Sourwood Honey Gold Reserve which retails for $112.00 — just in time for Rosh Hashanah!
Here's what they have to say about it...
Such a fickle bloom. It can grow a number of places but only produces
nectar in the upper heights of the Southern Appalachians. Deep stands of
sourwood trees display long fingers of white blossoms that bejewel
every stem. Those little white bells are the source of love for the
honeybees during their furious midsummer fling. The fruits of their
courtship, when cared for by the master sourwood maker, should be valued
more than gold. When you are lucky enough to taste the best, your taste
buds are met with an orchestra of flavors ranging from maple spice to
caramel to gingerbread. This unique flavor is universally appealing, and
arguably the best in the world.
Savannah Bee Sourwood Honey Gold Reserve is absolutely the finest
quality Sourwood honey we have seen in over a decade! We received a
limited amount of this one-of-a-kind honey from our beekeeper and it
will not last long! Sample the very best of
the Appalachian Mountains.
And, don't forget to check out their Rosh Hashanah offerings of beautiful gift packages including honey, beeswax candles and honeycombs. Of course, all honey is KSA certified kosher.
To enter, you must be a follower of designmegillah (scroll down to "join this site" on the right) or follow on Facebook and simply leave a comment.
Winner will be announced on September 3. Good luck!

Rosh Hashanah Apple Dipping Bar
One of the most popular and well-known customs of Rosh Hashanah is dipping apple slices into honey. This sweet combination stems from an
age-old Jewish tradition of eating sweet foods to express our hope for a
sweet new year.
Why not take it one step further and offer your guests an apple dipping bar! After dipping their apple, add a variety of toppings to sprinkle onto the sticky honey.
I came up with toppings I already had in my pantry...
but the sky's the limit!
What will you be sprinkling on top of your honey this year?

The New/Old House:Turning a Closet into a Bathroom
So here's the plan: Convert an unused coat closet into a half bathroom. The first floor of this 130 year-old Victorian has NO bathroom. That means the many college students (Chabad Nation) that pass through for Shabbat and holidays have to use the bathroom on the second floor. This is the family's domaine with the master bedroom and children's rooms. Not a good situation. Oh, and it's also not great for toilet training young children!
There's a large coat closet that would make a small but functional powder room so we're trying to get it done before Rosh Hashanah. Here's the plan...
1. There is so much fun bathroom art on Etsy like this one.
2. This sink is only 16 x 12 inches so it will be perfect is a tight space.
3. The walls are in bad shape after removing the countless hooks that have been there since the house was built. Fun art will draw the eye away from the walls.
4. An inexpensive but chic towel ring from Urban Outfitters.
5. Exposed copper pipes will save money (no breaking into the walls) and give the bath an industrial chic vibe.
Here's what is done so far...
I found lots of great frames at Goodwill for under $6.00 each!
And a mirror like this one from Home Goods...
Now it needs to be sanded and painted before the plumber arrives and then the fun part begins!

A Summer Wedding
We just returned from New York where we took part in a beautiful wedding overlooking the Long Island Sound. If you love weddings as much as I do, enjoy these beautiful shots from Sarah Tew Photography.
The chuppah was made up of birch logs and a family heirloom cloth covering.
The wedding took place in a historic mansion in Rye, New York.
We've known the groom since he was a toddler and he became a good friend of our son's so it made the wedding even sweeter!

Rosh Hashanah Bee Tags
These bumblebee tags can be so many things...place cards on your Rosh Hashanah table, napkin rings, tied to a bottle of honey or a loaf of honey cake. They are charming (right?) and perfect for the high holidays!
Each tag is printed on Kraft card stock...you add the name or message.
They come in a package of six and you can find them at my jewishholidayshop. How will you use your tags?

The Half Bath
We've been living in our (not so new) home for almost three years. Every room has been painted, designed and tinkered with except for the half bath. Because I just couldn't decide which direction I wanted to go, it sat here for two years with the raw plaster walls. I want to do something fun and dramatic but there are just too many choices...and guess what's on the walls now? White! How's that for dramatic?
The top right is a photo of what it looked like when we moved in. I replaced the vanity, sink, toilet and mirror which were a huge improvement.
Here are some of the ideas I pinned on Pinterest over the years...
Rosegarden paper from Rebel Walls
Sisters of the Sun, Juju Papers
Draw my own design like this one from Old Brand new Blog?
Otomi from Hygge & West
Nightingale Designs
I think I've finally pinned it down. Stay turned for the finished room!

Celebrating Honey
It's
already August and the high holidays will be here before we know it. To
kick off the season, Dena from Chai & Home has asked four other
Jewish bloggers (including me!) to share their secrets for holiday success. Head over to Chai & Home to hear what we have to say— here's a peek of my tip...
2. Create a bee skep centerpiece.
3. Tuck some honey sticks into napkin place settings.
4. Make these pretty honey lollipops.
5. Give mini honey cakes in place of New Year cards
