Sofa Art: Do's and Don't's

I went to the art supply store this week and bought real paint (not the craft store stuff) to start painting two canvases I plan on hanging over our living room sofa.

The wall has been blank since we moved in two years ago and since it's a neutral greige it's crying out for some color! At the same time I'm working with a client, trying to figure out what to put on their sofa wall. So, it seemed like a good time to post a little do's and don't's for sofa walls.

Here's the don't:
So many people hang art that is way too small for the wall and it's hung too high.

Instead, here is what to do...
You want to fill the space so think large! It can be multiples or one large painting or print—just be sure it's large enough to fill the space.

For a salon grouping like the one below, it's not a bad idea to buy the frames first, then fill in with art.
One large painting is clean and adds much needed color.
The grid below is easy and inexpensive to create with identical frames.
