What motivated you to start your blog, JewishLatinPrincess?
I had been reading blogs for three years, mostly interior design blogs and lifestyle blogs. It became evident to me that while there was so much creativity and inspiration being shared out there, few were putting it within a Jewish context. I decided to start blogging at JewishLatinPrincess to show how all the physical things that we love and enjoy as women — food, art, fashion, design, and so on — can and should be vehicles for our spiritual expression. In other words, I set out to create a lifestyle blog with a Jewish twist, and of course a Latin twist. ;-)
Have you always been creative? What did you study in school?
I’m smiling while I read this question. The definitive answer is Yes! I have vivid memories of my childhood — painting and re-decorating my bedroom, playing with fabrics, and putting together outfits. I always enjoyed art, and anything and everything creative. Most people won’t believe it, but I actually studied Economics and International Relations in college and later on went to get an MBA. Having a family, building a home, and more recently blogging at JewishLatinPrincess, have allowed me to nourish my creative side and I’m definitely enjoying it.
I was always a very spiritual person. The awesome thing is that in Judaism, we are spiritual by using the physical! As a Latin woman, I grew up in a culture that places great value on the physical beauty of things. Through my lifestyle blog I try to show how to channel that sensitivity to physical beauty in a Jewish way.
With four young children, how do you find the time to blog, style photos and speak to women's groups?!
Being a wife and mother is, and will always be, my number one priority. I want my family to be proud of the things I do and see the value in them, instead of resenting them, so I’m constantly making sure that my priorities and the right balance are in place. Blogging, preparing ladies’ classes, and styling nourish and fulfill me. They help me keep a balance between the constant giving that parenting entails, and the need for personal space. It’s a juggling act, but thankfully I’m pretty organized ;-)
Any blog posts planned for 2015 you can tell us about?
People are constantly asking me to share my tips, and the different design elements I’ve used to decorate our home. As any interior design enthusiast, I always feel like every room is unfinished, so I’ve been hesitant to start showing my own home. But, I think my readers will enjoy seeing more interior design posts, and creating these will push me to finish rooms and projects that have been waiting for me to tackle them far too long.
