The New Old House: Dairy Kitchen

My daughter's house is moving along much to do! At least the "dairy kitchen" is almost done thanks to several coats of paint and some new hardware.
Here is a peak of the kitchen on move-in dark and dingy.
This is one of two butler's pantries, and it's since not original to the house we painted it Benjamin Moore's Edgecomb Gray.
First it was wiped down with a deglosser to remove any dirt and grease and get rid of shine which the paint would not adhere to.  Next we primed with Stix, then painted.
A combination of a mini roller and brush worked well to cover the bead-board.
The counters are a combination of slate and wood. We used chalkboard paint to mimic the look of slate and sealed it with two coats of clear vanish.
It worked out really well and blends the two surfaces together.
The brass pulls and knobs are Martha Stewart from Home Depot...
I used the same pulls in my own kitchen. They're beautiful and a great bargain.
A mirror opposite the window helps to bounce more light into the room.
Next week I'm going to DIY a cool light fixture for the ceiling made out of paper straws!
