After weeks of missiles falling on Israel and bombs dropping on Gaza, we land on Tisha B’Av. Tuesday is the 9th of Av on the Hebrew calendar, a sad day for the Jewish people and commemorates a list of catastrophes. Not only were the first and second temples destroyed, but other historical events like the Spanish Inquisition, World War II and the Holocaust began on this day.
The last thing we eat before beginning the fast is a hard boiled egg dipped in ashes, along with bread and water. And, hopefully when it's over, in these days of missiles and tunnels, we can all find meaning.
