The New/Old House:Dining Room Light

When the previous owners of Ariel's house said they were taking the dining room chandelier with them, we weren't concerned. It was an old fashioned light fixture that seemed to fit right into the decor of the old dining room.

The room needed a splash of something modern to contrast with the old Victorian moldings and doors. And, since this dining room will be used to entertain college students in Amherst, Massachusetts it had to have a "hip" factor. Well, we accomplished just that...
the room is large and needed a chandelier to fill the space—we found this 18-Light Brushed Nickel Chandelier at Lowe's and it's perfect.
Here is a before peek of the room from the real estate listing...
Unfortunately the chandelier was cut off from the photo but you get the idea, right?

The sputnik light from Lowe's comes in a brushed nickel finish but we wanted it gold...
so, my favorite gold Design Master spray paint from Michael's came to the rescue.

It came with Edison bulbs which are really pretty but Ariel wanted something that she wouldn't have to change more than once every few years so we switched out the Edison bulbs to dimmable energy saving bulbs. She painted over the typography on the bottom of each bulb with an artist brush and gold paint.
The room is still a work in progress (you can see the gorgeous blue/green color we painted the walls) but at least those floor lamps are finally put away.

Have a great weekend and Shabbat!
