Even though Sukkot comes late this year (mid October) I plan on having our carpenter build ours over the summer. It will be a pergola that is a permanent structure that will change over to a sukkah come October. Here are my rough plans and some inspiration photos via Pinterest...

Is it too circus looking? I think it looks more beach cabana. Anyway, we'll see how it progresses this summer!

Dreaming of a Sukkah

I love the beach cabana sukkah! I used to "theme" ours, but now with 2 kids in day school it's just an assortment of school projects and kid artwork:)
ReplyDeleteWhen we built our house we designed our trellis on our deck to function as a sukkah. We just toss some palm leaves and/or bamboo mats on top, the railings are 42 inches, and we call it a day! The best part is that we have lighting and even an outdoor heater for the middle days, since nights in the Bay Area can get foggy. Good for you planning ahead!

Jessica, please send me a picture of yours this October!
DeleteSo exciting!!! Just a tip, you might want to.consult a rav about the pergola/sukkah design and how to implement . Our.house came with a.pergola and for some reason we can't use it as a sukkah :(
ReplyDeleteGood point--I already showed the plans to my son-in-law (he's a rabbi) and asked him what to do and what not to do. I didn't want him to tell me things I did wrong AFTER it was already built!
DeleteWhat a great idea... I love the first picture- looks so festive!
ReplyDeleteI hope mine looks half that good!
