Big Girl Bed

Several months before she turned three, Moussia started climbing out of her crib.
It's time for a big girl bed!
Since this was a birthday gift from Savta and Sabba (hebrew for grandmother and grandfather) I started looking months ahead of time on Craig's List for the perfect bed. The West Elm Marimekko comforter was purchased a year ago, (they no longer carry this teal/green color) so I knew I would paint the bed black to bring out the black stems and dots in the pattern. After looking for months, I fell in love with Spindle beds. Here is one I found for $1,299.99...

Gorgeous, but the price was NOT in my budget. After much looking on Craig's List I found this...
It had the spindles I was looking for, solid wood, very strong (should hold up to children using the bed as a trampoline) and the price was right, only $75 dollars!

With a few coats of  (NO-VOC) semi gloss paint, we were in business! Luckily, the bed comes apart in four pieces so I was able to transport it in my CRV. Oh, I forgot to mention, I went to my local lumberyard and asked them to cut slats so we don't need a box spring and the mattress can sit right on the slats.
Perfect! Now, if she would only stay in her bed all night...
